Accessibility at Evergreen Theatre

At Evergreen Theatre, we believe live music should be welcoming and accessible to everyone in our community. While our historic 1859 building has deep roots in Nova Scotia’s heritage, our modern 2018 expansion was specifically designed to provide comfortable, barrier-free access.

If you have specific accessibility questions or require accommodations not detailed below, please contact us at (902) 825-6834 or email evergreentheatre@gmail.com. We are always happy to help.

 1. Arrival & Parking

• Accessible Parking Spaces: Reserved, clearly marked accessible parking spaces are located directly in front of the main entrance for patrons with valid provincial mobility permits.
• Main Parking Lot: A spacious, free gravel parking lot is located directly across the road from the theatre.
• Drop-Off Area: Drivers are welcome to pull directly up to the front entrance to drop off passengers before parking in the main lot across the street.
• Winter Weather Care: For all winter performances, the entrance ramp, steps, and accessible parking areas are cleared, plowed, and salted prior to doors opening.

2. Barrier-Free Facility Access

• Entrance Ramp: A gently sloped, ramp with sturdy handrails provides barrier-free access directly into our main entrance or modern addition.
• Threshold-Free Lobby: The entire 2018 addition—including our lobby, licensed concession bar, and restroom corridor—is on a single, continuous level with wide doorways and smooth flooring.
• Restrooms: The lobby features five individual modern restrooms, including one fully barrier-free, wheelchair-accessible restroom equipped with safety grab bars, low-profile fixtures, and wheelchair turnaround space.

3. Auditorium & Wheelchair Seating

• Designated Wheelchair Spaces: Within our 115-seat historic sanctuary, we maintain two dedicated, barrier-free wheelchair spaces offering excellent sightlines within 30 feet of the stage.
• How to Reserve: Because seating in our intimate 115-seat venue is limited, please notify us when booking—or contact our box office at (902) 825-6834 or evergreentheatre@gmail.com—so our volunteer team can have your space reserved and ready upon arrival.

4. Sound & Acoustic Environment

• Natural Acoustic Resonance: Evergreen Theatre is celebrated as a pure listening room. The  sanctuary provides warm, natural acoustic amplification and clarity.
• Assistive Listening: We do not currently offer electronic FM or infrared assistive listening headsets. Because every seat is within 30 feet of the performer, sound levels are exceptionally clear and balanced.
• Volume Levels: As an listening venue, sound levels are rarely uncomfortably loud. If you are sensitive to sound or attending a louder amplified roots/blues show, complimentary earplugs are available at the bar upon request.
